Recently I have read a blog post by Connie Solera, one of my favourite art journal artists.
She writes really powerfully about the way, we as artists, often don’t know what impact our work has on the world.
I have had similar experience as artist educator in the galleries I worked in.
And more recently, wondering what impact, if any, my work shall have when for example working with people at Goldsmiths Community Centre, work which I am getting ready to take up this autumn.
I don’t know.
What I do know is that what matters is spreading the word and heart about the things that matter to us. In the light of Grenfell, of Syria, of Charlottesville…and many other things that are happening and going on in this world.
We and our work may not be all about pretty pictures, but about things that matter to us. And we don’t know.
Still turn up…art and learn.
